German plastics machinery: Upturn in Q4 2009

Following a 35% upswing in orders in Q4 2009, the outlook for the German plastics and rubber machinery manufacturing sector has brightened considerably, says the plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers committee in the German engineering federation VDMA (KuG. www.kug.vdma.org), encouraged by the latest industry figures.

The Q4 improvement dampened the downturn against 2008 to 28% from a previously estimated 30%. Orders from Germany decreased by 35%, from the euro zone by 38%. Non-European orders were 24% lower. Early indicators suggest “very positive” development in 2010, said KuG chairman Ulrich Reifenhäuser.
