Ulrich Reifenhäuser about K 2010
Optimism abounds in the
industry in time for K!
After the economic downturn of the last two years, the signs of recovery in the industry are now clearly visible. K 2010 couldn’t be taking place at a better time. Revitalised demand is all set to discover what the global plastics and rubber industry has to offer.
By Ulrich Reifenhäuser, Chairman of the K 2010 Exhibitors Council
What seemed wishful thinking not so long ago is now reality: the world’s plastics and rubber industry is well and truly back in the game in time for K 2010. Business in the first half of 2010 has far exceeded expectations, and we are also very optimistic about the coming months. After the massive slump in the aftermath of the global financial and economic crisis, a solid recovery is now well underway. Raw materials producers, machine manufacturers and processors have got their work cut out to meet all the customer enquiries and orders. And for certain products, there are already long lead times.
Key marketplace advantage:
We are now benefiting from having built on our strengths in the face of adversity in times of slack business, from having pushed ahead with new ideas and significantly improved our competitiveness. Because we know that our expertise is our key advantage in the battle for markets and market shares. How will we hold our own in the face of fierce competition? The answer is short and sweet: with high standards and innovative technologies.
Current strong focus:
Against this background, the timing of K 2010 in Düsseldorf couldn’t be better. In these turbulent times, everyone operating in the plastics and rubber industry needs a forum where all the information from the industry comes together. Some 3,100 exhibitors, who will be presenting their products and processes in 19 exhibition halls, will show the way ahead. And I can only urge you not to miss this opportunity. Last year demonstrated that even a thriving industry like our own can be severely hit by the ups and downs of the global economy. We’ve learnt that it takes courage, strength and creativity to overcome such crises. But it has also become obvious yet again that plastics and rubber still have enormous untapped growth potential.
There is currently a strong focus on one of plastics’ outstanding properties, namely their energy efficiency. In view of redoubled climate protection efforts, these materials are indispensable and will continue to be so. No other materials are capable of meeting the challenging Kyoto and Copenhagen CO2 targets anything like as well.
Trip to the future:
“Visions in Polymers”
The presentations of exhibitors at K will impressively confirm this from 27 October on. And, additionally, the special review “Visions in Polymers” will identify the development trends that will influence our lives in the coming decades and which innovations the industry has in its pipelines for meeting future challenges. It’s K time! Innovative products and business with them are what K 2010 is all about. However, what makes the trade fair days truly exciting is the coming-together of experts from all over the world. And I’m very much looking forward to these personal exchanges!
See you in Düsseldorf from 27 October!
