The production collaboration between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Plastic Technology Co. (Nagoya, Japan) and Hong Kong's Chen Hsong is currently constructing its third Mitsubishi-badged large two-platen hydraulic injection press at a Chen Hsong facility in Southern China.
"Eventually, we plan to manufacture thirty to fifty units annually, and deliver these machines not only in China but also other developing markets such as Indonesia where strong growth is envisaged in the auto sector," says Takashi Mizuno, general manager of the engineering department at Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi also sees opportunities in North America, where the Big Three are beginning to invest again and large hydraulic machines remain popular. However, "In Japan, automakers have converted their in-house molding operations to all-electric machines, even though they cost more than double that of our MMX series, and in some cases they've demanded Tier Is and IIs follow suit," notes Mizuno....
