NANOCON -Automotive,Consumer/Decorative parts-

UNITIKA make a proposal to reduce costs of metallic colored parts by NANOCON compounds with metallic appearance. "NANOCON" is a high-gloss material that features metallic brilliance, rigidity, heat resistance, and chemical resistance.

The principle of the metallic brilliance
As each silicate layer has almost the same size as a polyamide 6 molecule chain itself, nanocomposite molding items have an excellent surface appearance compared with the conventional reinforced materials. Metallic pigment in NANOCON shine brilliantly because the synthetic layered silicate has fine white appearance compared with natural layered silicate an NANOCON itself is uncolored.

The characteristic of NANOCON
Nanocomposit polyamide 6 "NANOCON" is a reinforced material based on the polyamide 6 with numerous ultra-fine inorganic fillers. NANOCON is a novel composite material which has completely different properties from conventional composite materials reinforced with "micron-sized"fillers, such as glass fiber and talc.

Applications
Automotive parts [Case, Cover, Door-handle]
NANOCON has achieved high heat resistance, dimensional accuracy and a good appearance compared with normal polyamide 6. In addition to the chemical resistance with the original polyamide 6 resin, it also has weather and light resistance due to our original prescription. Because of its excellent strength and rigidity which is the greatest feature derived from Unitika's independent filler compounding technology.
NANOCON is also applicable to load-bearing parts, such as door handles.

Other parts
"NANOCON" metallic resin is taking advantage of the high design property, it can widely applied as familiar products other than automotive.

U Polymer Super Engineering Plastic

U polymer is a super engineering plastic commercialized by UNITIKA in advance to any other companies in the world. With its excellent properties, U polymer is used in a variety of applications including precision devices, automobiles, machines, medical devices, foods, and daily commodities. UNITIKA is also developing various other grades that satisfy the specific needs of customers by applying the favorable properties of the polyarylate resin (U polymer) developed with all technical resources of UNITIKA and using the UNITIKA's proprietary compounding technology.

Characteristics

1. Transparency and heat resistance
U polymer has the highest-level heat resistance among transparent resins available (deflection temperature under load: 1.8 MPa at 175°C) and the transparency as high as PC or PMMA, transmitting almost 90% light.

2. Elastic recovery
U polymer exhibits excellent elastic recovery, and has a high allowable strain ratio and thus may be used as springs in a wider range of length. U polymer is also excellent in creep properties and retains the properties as spring for an extended period of time.

3. Weather Resistance
Because UV irradiation increases the UV-blocking property of U polymer, U polymer exhibits excellent weather resistance without addition of any additives for improving weather resistance. (Although there is some yellowing, there is almost no change in physical properties, transparency, or others.)

4. Flame resistance
U polymer is approved as UL94 V-2 (0.75 mm) without addition of any flame retardants. (Standard grade)

TUFPRENE™ and ASAPRENE™T are styrene/butadiene block copolymers, widely recognized and proven as styrenic thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with excellent elastomeric characteristics, compatibility with polystyrene and other polymers, and processing characteristics.

The original TUFPRENE™ series was introduced in 1971 as the first styrenic TPE produced in Japan.
With its addition of the ASAPRENE™T series and its continuing advances in the performance characteristics
of both series for a broad range of functions and applications, Asahi Kasei is Japan’s established

In service, TUFPRENE™ and ASAPRENE™T provide elastic performance comparable to that of vulcanized rubber.
In fabrication, however, they can be readily molded and extruded in the same manner as other thermoplastics.

Their performance characteristics include the following:

High rubber elasticity, comparable to that of vulcanized rubber.
Superior low-temperature characteristics.
High adhesive strength, for a broad range of materials.
Superior compatibility with polystyrene and other resins, and with asphalt.
Low solution viscosity, ready solubility in a broad range of industrial solvents.
High slip resistance.
Crosslinking capability.
Low specific gravity, for lightweight products.

Typical applications of TUFPRENE™ and ASAPRENE™T:

Plastic blends with polystyrene and other polymers.
Base polymers in a broad range of pressure-sensitive and other adhesives.
Asphalt blends for waterproof sheeting, road paving, other fields.
Shoe soles.
Multilayer coextruded sheets, toys, sporting goods, erasers, other products.
