New dimensions at the K 2016 - SML to boost productivity and flexibility
SML has yet again developed a bigger, faster and smarter stretch film line and will display this all-new PowerCast line at the K 2016 where live demonstration runs will provide clear evidence of its powerful performance.
The PowerCast is a 4 m-wide (8-up) stretch film line for hand, machine and jumbo roll production, which combines extremely low energy consumption with maximum production flexibility on a top performance level. Clearly designed for high output, the PowerCast is equipped with a 13-layer feedblock and eight extruders including edge encapsulation for maximum throughputs of 3,000 kg/h.
At the same time, a second PowerCast stretch film line with an identical extruder configuration, but using a 55-layer Cloeren nano feedblock system, will be running at SML headquarters in Lenzing, Austria. This line will serve the scientific comparison of the film qualities achievable by means of nano-layers, as opposed to conventional co-extrusion.
Apart from the exhibited PowerCast, comprehensive information regarding the complete range of SML extrusion technology and its advanced developments will be available.
Foamed PET employing a conical twin screw extruder
Physical foaming with a single-screw extruder is already a well-known process, but the production of physically foamed PET sheet using a conical twin-screw extruder is a completely new and highly successful SML development. Moreover, it represents just one of the applications of SML’s FlexiPET sheet line, which can handle production switches to foamed sheet, solid sheet, cast film or laminated PET/PE with minimum change-over times.
New breathable products using the DoubleCoat process
Extensive test runs utilising the recently introduced DoubleCoat process, which combines extrusion coating with hot melt lamination, have shown that in particular monolithic, breathable coatings benefit from this new production method with regard to factors such as weight, elasticity, water-tightness and breathability.
A FlexPack demonstration line, including the DoubleCoat process, will be in operation at SML’s headquarters for further test runs prior to the K show.
