For the last 20 years RUCKS have been designing and manufacturing servo-electrical presses for applications which require the highest level of repeatable accuracy in terms of force and positioning. This is precisely the reason why Heraeus decided to go for the system from RUCKS, as it offers the optimum operating conditions for the manufacturing of its products.
The heart of the system is a downstroke press with high-precision servo-electric pressing module for the generation of press force. This has been specially designed for long press cycles which means that 24-hour pressing at full load does not pose a problem. Through the extra large pressing force range of 0.5 kN – 145 kN different products can be pressed in a more flexible manner. The high level of pressing force accuracy of ± 0.5 kN over the whole pressing force range and the high level of positioning accuracy of 0.01 mm guarantee repeatable results and constant high quality.
The heat input into the product is through two large 500 x 500 mm electrical heating/cooling plates with a maximum temperature of 250°C.
For homogeneous temperature distribution of <± 1 K on the heating plate surface, 18 heating zones have been installed and ramps of up to 10 K/min can be achieved using a controlled cooling function.
For very short cycle times, a highly-dynamic heating/cooling design has been used in the press. In this the press is fitted with a tool holding system and two cooling plates which can be retracted electronically.
With the tool holding system the tool fitted can easily be pushed into the pressing area and can be heated extremely quickly with the heating plates which have
already been heated. Depending on the tool thickness, heat rates in the product of more than 70 K/min can be achieved without any problem.
The same goes for the cooling process. Once the heating process has finished, the press opens and the cooling plates move into the pressing space. As with the heating plates, the cooling plates are already at the target temperature and allow cooling rates in the product of more than 70 K/min.
As well as the high heating/cooling rates, which significantly reduce the time cycles, the system has two further advantages.
Firstly, we must mention the energy efficiency. During the cooling process the heating plates remain at the target temperature and only the tool will be cooled which leads to significant energy savings in comparison with conventional heating-cooling processes.
And secondly, there is the homogeneous temperature distribution during the cooling process. As the cooling plates are not cooled, but are kept at a constant temperature, homogeneous temperature conditions of up to ±1K prevail in the dynamic state on their surfaces. This guarantees the highest level of product quality.
The machine is controlled by the control system “RUxx Logic HP®“ that has proved itself for years and is continuously further developed. With a graphically orientated user surface, touchscreen, online language selection, and internet communication, it fulfills the customers requests for a modern and user-friendly operating concept.
All processing parameters are recorded with the assistance of the RUDAS data recording system and can subsequently be evaluated and further processed.
