GMT, GMTex®, QTex

The classic GMT materials consist of fiber glass mats manufactured according to our patents which are impregnated with polypropylene in a second process step. This results in a material with excellent impact strength and optimal crash behavior. Even in low temperatures, GMT guarantees high energy absorption as well as ductile failure behavior and positive failure behavior without sharp breaking points. Thus, our GMT materials have been used for semi-structural components for vehicles of almost all of the well-known car manufacturers.

GMTex® has basically the same composition as GMT, although the base materials are reinforced with additional woven fabrics. Depending on the requirements, these reinforcing materials can also be combined with glass mats. This results in materials with special properties that are also taking over the structural components of vehicles. GMTex® can be a substitute for steel, aluminum or magnesium, making new innovative component concepts for future vehicle generations possible. GMTex® meets the highest crash safety requirements.

QTex is a high performance composite laminate system made with thermoplastic polymer (PP). The combination of continuous reinforcing fibers with thermoplastic polymers results in exceptionally high strength and rigidity. QTex can be used to reinforce components to improve their performance. The material is available from 0.6 mm – 2.0 mm thickness, suitable for compression molding, thermoform-pressing, LFT and other technologies. It can be provided as blanks or rolled goods.

SymaLITE®, SYTex

This extremely lightweight glass fiber reinforced, form press capable composite material consists mainly of polypropylene fibers and three-dimensionally directed glass fibers. In addition to high stiffness with extremely low weight, SymaLITE® has good noise-insulating properties. It can be used as a substitute for semi-finished Luan, plywood, fiber boards or rigid foams. With functional and decorative layers it can be also used as a light weight alternative to other standard solutions in plastics like e.g. injection molding.  

SYTex sandwich material is the combination of SymaLITE® and QTex. Compared to standard LWRT, SYTex offers significant higher impact properties, structural stiffness and pull-out forces. Due to the lofting of the SymaLITE® core, different wall thickness can be realized in a SYTex component, too.

Ketron® 1000 PEEK

Ketron 1000 PEEK stock shapes are produced from virgin polyetheretherketone resin and offer the highest toughness and impact strength of all Ketron PEEK grades. Both Ketron 1000 PEEK natural & black can be sterilized by all conventional sterilization methods (steam, dry heat, ethylene oxide and gamma irradiation). Additionally, the composition of the raw materials used for the manufacture of Ketron 1000 PEEK stock shapes complies with the regulations of the European Union (Directive 2002/72/EC, as amended) and the United States of America (FDA) for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.
Ketron 1000 PEEK natural and black (rods, plates, tubes) are available as  "Food Grades".

KyronMAX™ High Strength Structural Compounds

Part of the Kyron product portfolio, KyronMAX bridges the gap between conventional injection moldable filled polymers and expensive lay-up composites. It is a unique combination of a proprietary high pressure molding technology, coupled with a state-of-the-art material technology that produces high strength structural components.

Product Features

Near Net Shape Technology for Kyron Polymers
Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials - Engineered Solutions has developed a proprietary high pressure molding technology that yields near net shape polymers up to 2” thick without porosity, voids or sinks. The process, which utilizes molding equipment designed and developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials - Engineered Solutions, allows the company to mold high performance thermoplastics, filled or unfilled, with isotropic mechanical properties.

Fluorosint® 500 PTFE

Exceptional Dimensional Stability for Precise Tolerance Control

Reinforced with a proprietary synthetic mica, this material exhibits, in addition to its inherent outstanding chemical and hydrolysis resistance, very good mechanical and tribological properties.
Fluorosint 500 PTFE (colour: ivory) has nine times greater resistance to deformation under load than unfilled PTFE. Its coefficient of linear thermal expansion approaches the expansion rate of aluminum and is 1/5 that of virgin PTFE, often eliminating fit and clearance problems. It is considerably harder than virgin PTFE, has better wear characteristics and maintains low frictional properties. Fluorosint 500 PTFE is also non-abrasive to most mating materials.

Medical focus at MCAM Plastics NV in Belgium

Next to injection moulding developments in automotive and industrial segments, MCAM Plastics has a focus on the joint development of medical devices, especially in manufacturing and assembly of large volumes of “over the counter” (OTC) applications.

MCAM Plastics NV in Tielt Belgium is certified ISO13485 for medical devices, FDA registered and is operating a fully equipped certified cleanroom ISO class 8 with 13 injection moulding machines.
Also the assembly of the devices can be done fully automated in a cleanroom environment or HACCP environment. The activities include testing and final packaging and labelling.
The onsite tool shop and automation team complement and support the activities in the medical segment.

Metal printing for molds at MCAM Plastics NV in Tielt Belgium



The injection molding facility of Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials in Tielt, Belgium has introduced a new technology in its tool shop to be able to print metal parts for molds to service its customers faster and better. For this purpose, a LUMEX 25 Hybrid Metal Printer of “Matsuura” and hardening oven are installed in a dedicated area in the tool shop.

The LUMEX 25 is unique by combining 2 different technologies, the metal printing from metal powder by laser and sequential integrated detailed milling. In this process, the result is a completely finished part, which can be directly used in a mold or can be post hardened in the available hardening oven. This single process replaced in many cases 6 conventional mechanical processes and is therefore reducing programming and machine time and of course the related manpower.

Other functional advantages of this process are:

(i)                  The creation of integrated porous zones or low-density zones that are used as air ejection zones or as air evacuation zone to avoid burn marks. In this way eliminating mechanical push ejectors or airgaps, with as result lower cost tool parts.

(ii)                Instead of having massive full steel structures, the non-functional areas are optimized by simple support structures like honeycomb, which results in faster more cost efficient printing, again reducing the production time of the part and more efficient material use.

(iii)               Optimized cooling is another major benefit. The cooling channels come to places, which are not possible to reach by conventional methods. Uniform cooling has an immediate positive effect on the cooling time, warpage and dimensional stability of injection-molded parts.

One of our objectives is to produce small mold cavity inserts as 1 part (monoblock design) and have these installed in a standard mold housing within 4 weeks for standard production series or for production of prototypes.

By using the hybrid, metal 3D printing process, MCAM Plastics NV can produce optimized molds and mold parts in a shorter time compared to using conventional techniques.
