The Department of Polymer Engineering is a university department with a special focus on research in the field of polymers and composites, including microcomposites and nanocomposites, and also bio-composites. The department has a well-equipped laboratory of 1500 square meters for materials testing, extrusion, injection molding, mixing, composites, metrology, microscopy & morphology, sample preparation, prototyping, rheology and simulation. The Department is involved in a large number of different Hungarian and international research projects, including many industrial projects. It also has bilateral connections and fruitful cooperation with several universities and companies, as a result of which many papers are published in high-rank journals.
The department is a part of the highest ranked technical university in Hungary, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME, www.bme.hu), which was founded in 1782. The Department of Polymer Engineering also participates in education at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on all levels, BSc, MSc and PhD, and also provides further training to industrial partners in numerous fields. The Department actively participates in PhD training, with over 25 national and international (Russian, Turkish, Chinease, Italian and Indian) PhD students, typically in industry-related research fields.
